Which haldi is best for haldi doodh? A deep-coloured, aromatic turmeric powder like this one. Turmeric (haldi, manjal in Tamil, haridra in Sanskrit) is the busiest jar in an Indian kitchen: it colours dals and sabzis, goes into haldi doodh (golden milk) that mothers warm up on rainy Dubai evenings, and is traditionally mixed with besan for ubtan face packs before weddings. A pinch in warm milk with black pepper is the classic nuskha passed down in most households. Freshly packed at our Oud Metha kirana, delivered across Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.
