What is fitkari and why do barbers use it? Fitkari is alum (phatakadi in Gujarati, padikaram in Tamil), the translucent crystal traditionally rubbed on freshly shaved skin as a natural aftershave, dissolved in water for gargles in many households, and even used to settle cloudy water in village homes.
